Sigga's History

Sigga was born on July 22, 1907 and spent her "growing up years" on a farm on the Birch Bay Lynden Road near Blaine. She attended the California Creek School and graduated from Blaine High School in 1926. She married Adolph Anderson on December 29, 1926 and moved to the Anderson farm on the then Barney Johnson Road.

As a wife, mother, and farm woman, Sigga's days were filled with baking, cleaning, washing, sewing, canning, helping with farm chores such as cutting wood, gardening, and haying and of course, raising children.

In addition to her many responsibilities at home, Sigga was very active in the Free Church Unitarian almost from the beginning. She taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and was active in the Women's Alliance, serving as president at one time. Her children remember anecdotes about her religious and philosophical nature such as sending them to Vacation Bible School and taping religious and philosophical sayings inside her kitchen cupboard doors.

Sigga's life wasn't all work and responsibility.

Her children remember playing "Hide the Thimble" as well as Chinese checkers and caroms. Playing cribbage after the chores were done was also common. Playing "crib" is still a family tradition enjoyed by most of the kids and grand kids.

In her later years, in addition to lovingly nurturing her grandchildren, Sigga enjoyed crossword puzzles. Her dictionary was always at hand to check on a word.

Sigga passed away in 1972 after a series of strokes.
